Do you dream about hiking the Inca Trail or climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro or long for tasting a truly spectacular wine while watching the sun go down over the Tuscan countryside? Are you waiting for the opportunity to dive the Great Barrier Reef or climb the Sydney Harbor Bridge or is the idea of a wild pride of lions chase down their prey in Africa your travel dream? What is stopping you from realizing your travel dreams?
While I see a very positive trend in this area, I speak to people nearly every day who have these travel dreams but look at them as something they will do “someday”. They are waiting for the world to give them the opportunity to do these things and doing little more than dreaming about them. I have some bad news. The world will not give you the opportunity. You will need to make it happen. To do that, here are a few tips to realize your travel dreams.
I read a great post titled “9 things that stop you for achieving your goals” that defines many reasons why people don’t achieve their dreams.
So what’s stopping you from realizing your travel dreams? I have found many of these 9 items in my life and in planning my trips and wanted to share a few simple tips to help you Travel Far Better.
Travel Far Better Tips
- Leave something to go back for. It’s easy to think you need to do “everything” when you travel half way around the planet. Leaving something un-done on a stop it releases the pressure to see it all and lets you focus on having great experiences in what you actually accomplish.
- Take smaller bites. Australia was one of the places I longed to see more than anywhere. But I didn’t plan a trip because I thought if I went I needed 3-4 weeks to see everything I wanted to see. A business trip changed my view dramatically and I realized there was no way one trip would ever be enough. I have now been to Australia over 10 times and long to return nearly every day. I can’t imagine how many incredible memories I would have missed if I had kept waiting to “see it all.”
- Take a really long flight. Getting to the other side of the world is easier and more affordable than it has ever been. It is truly amazing to think that in less than a day we can get to almost anywhere on this planet. The idea of a 17 hour flight scared me but only until I had done it. By watching a couple of movies, eating a couple of meals and taking a good nap you can be anywhere. Once you experience this the world gets a lot smaller.
- Take a cheap vacation. It can cost more to Travel Far Better. An easy way to make these trips more affordable is to alternate cheaper trips with the more expensive trips. Traveling Far Better does not have to break the bank, it just takes some planning.
- Make travel important. Travel is one of the things we do that can be truly life changing. By seeing how other cultures live we learn how to live our lives batter. Showing our children how the these cultures have different values than we do here in the USA has made a huge difference in their lives. We made huge changes to travel like we do but small changes can have a big impact. Buy a cheaper car, eat out less often, or buy a smaller home and put the savings in a travel fund.
- Get expert help. The internet has made it possible to easily get information. The volume of that information has become so large that it can be overwhelming. Work with a company like Travel Far Better to cut through the noise and make sure you have a great experience and you spend your travel dollars on what is important to you.
