Exploring Lisbon and Sintra, Portugal

Lisbon is the city that was my idea of where you would go to become a digital nomad. It had a mystique about it. Food was delicious and cheap, housing was affordable, and it was a city surrounded by beauty.

The old town area of Lisbon is a bit touristy but still really charming. We found a fun quirky cafe and drank good coffee while listening to Portuguese music from the 60s.

The Pasteis de Nata weren’t bad either! Our internet searching brought us to Pastéis de Belém for warm, custardy goodness.

The high point of the trip was exploring Sintra and Cascais. Quinta de Regaleira, Cabo de Roca, a remote beach, and a stop in the village of Cascais in the back of a Jeep made for a great day.

I think our expectations of Lisbon may have been too high going in. We enjoyed our stay but didn’t feel the same kind of connection here we felt in Madrid <see post>. We stayed out near the airport at the Marriott Lisbon. It was a nice hotel but we will stay at a smaller, more central hotel when we return. We did manage to find a fun little restaurant not far from the hotel where we ate wonderful food al fresco and people-watched.

Lisbon is a city many people love so we would certainly go back and try again. Exploring more of the area around Lisbon would be our first stop!

Next, we head inland to a Dark Sky preserve near Alqueva, Portugal
